Running Roots India Pvt Ltd is launching its first project “SISTER” to promote menstrual hygiene.
The rationale behind the SISTER project is that use of sanitary napkins has increased in urban areas but rural India is substantially lagging behind. The reasons are multifold : there is a sense of taboo around menstrual hygiene, over 50% of married women aged between 15 and 24 are still partially or wholly reliant on cloth to manage their periods, there is a substantial lack of awareness with many misconceptions and the social structure does not permit girls/women to talk freely about this to male members. As a result, the Urban-Rural divide persists in use of Sanitary Products. On the other hand, feminine care brands are yet to spread their roots in rural India.
The SISTER project aims to promote menstrual hygiene for girls and women in rural and semi-urban India by :
a. Providing sanitary napkins to rural areas with an objective to reach out to 100% of rural girls and women
b. Providing same premium quality sanitary napkins to rural women, as used by urban ladies.
c. Providing premium napkins at substantially lower cost than what is offered by reputed brands in urban centres.
